Because We're Happy :)

Since September we have been working on a Religion project called 'Schools Across Borders'. This project allowed us to create a mini NGO. We based our NGO on girls education as we are a girls school. We named our NGO 'Empower Girls'. We created a video during the year to show how we were happy in school and how we wanted every girl to feel the same way.

Junk Kouture

We have been working on a project in home-ec called Junk Kouture. Junk Kouture is a fashion competition where you make an outfit out of recycled material (junk).

At the start of the year we were put into groups. In my group were Caoimhe Mc C, Caoimhe M, Sita, Merveille and myself.

We sketched out our ideas and all agreed on a dress made of many layers on bubble wrap ,a bed sheet , and wire. We had a draw to see who our model would be and I was pulled from the hat.

We began to gather materials and we got a corset for the base of the dress. We pleated the bubble wrap and dyed the bed sheet pink. As the bedsheet was big we decided to cut the fabric and sewed it onto the corset and added some silver giltter. We also created a big bow out of bubble wrap and tied it together with earphones, we used this for the head piece. Sita brought in old shoes and we glues pink material to them.

Last week we had our school fashion show and all the models wore their junk outfit. We were judged by 3 teachers. As we walked the catwalk a member from our team would read a blurb about our creation. The fashion show was alot of fun and it was really exciting seeing what other teams have created.

CJFM .. shhhh ;)

A couple of weeks ago Ty's were asked to do a flash mob to promote our schools musical 'Calamity Jane'. Only Ty's and a few teachers knew about the flash mob. A few girls came up with a dance to 'The Windy City' and 'Animal'. The girls thought us the dance during class time because we had to practise in secret so the rest of school wouldn't find out. In order to keep it a secret we had a secret code which was 'CJFM' meaning ' Calamity Jane Flash Mob'.  We performed the flash mob in the courtyard of the school at lunch time. The whole school gathered around.

On Saturday the 7th of December we performed the flash mob in the courtyard of St.Patricks Church in village as the Christmas lights were being turned on and there was a large crowd. We all wore checkered shirts to promote the western side of the musical.  Once we started dancing , the grows gathered around us shocked and taking pictures and videos. I think we did a good job at promoting :):):)

aw so cute <3

Happy Hollydays!

Today we went to town to volunteer for the ISPCC HollyDays fund, raising money for Childline. We all got into groups of 2/3 and were given a bib to wear and a box of holly badges and a money container to sell at 2euro each. We were all given a place to sell. I was just outside the Disney store on Grafton Street with Aoife and Sophie.

There were also other schools volunteering for other charities so it was tough to get people to help us all out, but we did end up making some friends with students in the other schools. Once it came lunch time it began to get busy and a lot of people supported the ISPCC.

Garda Ems x x x

For the past 9 weeks i have been on work experience every Wednesday in Kevin Street Garda Station. I have really enjoyed my time I spent there. Over the 8 weeks I went to the courts, visited th Garda Headquarters, visited the main office in the station, went with my supervisor to take a statement off a man, I was taught how to clip a CCTV tape and upload it to G-Tube the Garda Youtube.

My favourite part of the placement was going test purchasing for alcohol. I went into numerous shops/ Off-licences. I had to take any two cans of beer and try purchase it. Most places refused as I didnt have I.D but one place sold me drink. I thought it was scary and embarrising but it was interesting.

I had a good time during my placement in Kevin Street , the people were very friendly.
