The Fault In Our Stars

For the past couple of weeks i have been reading The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. Its easy to see why John Green has the following he does. The book was simple, deep and humerousall at the same time. The biggest thihng i worried about reading this book was the sadness because I hate to see people suffer. But somehow John Green manages to take a cancer book and fill it with the sweetest memories.I found the book difficult to get into as it took 8/9 chapters for the story to move on. The plot was ok-, it never wowed me or kept me on the edge of my seat. It just seemed to float along, no major twists. You could tell from the beginning how it would end - though I still wanted to continue reading.Personally I didnt think Augustus & Hazel-Grace really felt like teenagers. They were both very intelligent and thought about life more than your average teenager. Maybe because they were both ill , but they just didnt seem real to me.Anyway, while I feel confused on how I feel about the characters, it doesnt change the fact that this is a great read that i'd recommend to others.

Looking For Alaska- John Green

For the past week few weeks I have read Looking for Alaska, another book written by John Green.

Miles convinces his parents to send him away to boarding school in Alabama so that he can seek "the Great Perhaps." There he meets his roommate, Chip, called the Colonel, and Alaska Young,  who he instantly falls in love with. Miles is quickly joined forces with them in their war against the Weekday Warriors (the rich kids who go home every weekend) and they bond over  pranks, studying, and rule-breaking. About halfway through the book a tragedy occurs, and the remaining characters try and to pull off one last, greatest-ever prank.

My favourite character has to be Pudge/Miles the narrator in the story, which is all told from his point of view. His  teenage crush Alaska is all he can think about in his time at Culuvers Creek Boarding School. Pudge is a bit of a strange character, and has a habit of remembering famous last words. He falls heavily in love with Alaska although Alaska is a careless girl who drinks, smokes and doesn't pay too much attention to Pudge's feelings.

I really enjoyed this book because it doesn't hide anything. It shows what young love and growing up are really like. Id would recommend this book as it is very hard to put down. You'll get attached to Miles and Alaska, just as they do to each other.
